It was a thing of the past. But I’m going to tell about that because the picture on newspaper has left a impression on me.
I visited to U.S from Japan to meet my friend two years and half ago. It was my first overseas trip. Torino Olympic games took place at that time. I loved figureskating and focused my attention on the women’s singles. Finally, My favorite japanese skater won the gold medal.
I went to newsstand to buy a newspaper because I thought that her picture would be on the front page. However, I was in America. It was an American skater’s picture that was on there. The picture showed american skater just falling on ice. (She won the silver medal.) There was a tiny picture which showed Japanese skater smiling next to the picture. Though I was shocked, it was natural American newspaper focused on representative america. However the picture didn’t show her holding silver medal. It meant American people really expected her to get a gold medal. I thought the media person who chose the picture didn’t satisfied with her performance at all. As above, I might say that pictures on a newspaper or a magazine sometimes indicate not only the obvious message but also another message.
